Public Soup Kitchen for Children “Ruke prijateljstva“ Lukavac
With the help of kind people and volunteers, the members of the association of altruists “Ruke prijateljstva” started the first Soup Kitchen for Children in Lukavac in 2017. The main objective of the Kitchen was to provide help to those who need it the most. Beneficiaries of this Soup Kitchen are children in pre-school and school age from socially marginalized families, but also elderly who are socially marginalized. Over the past two years, the number of Kitchen’s beneficiaries has been growing each day and they currently have 270 beneficiaries provided with one meal per day, of whom 173 are children. The one meal they get in the Kitchen is often their only daily meal. The Soup Kitchen for Children has no permanent course of financing and their operations depend on the help of kind people, organizations and volunteers. They currently have four workers-volunteers, who collect food from citizens through field work. EKI as a socially responsible organization recognized the importance of this Association and the problems they are faced with in their work, so as part of EKI’s Socially Responsible Actions Project, the staff members from EKI Office Tuzla/Lukavac donated food products, hygiene items and kitchen accessories, and thus ease their preparation of daily meals for children at least to some extent. Although it does sound unbelievable that there is a need for this kind of association nowadays, the facts and reality speak otherwise and it in fact is he truth, unfortunately. If we are unable to change the sad fact of the need for such an association, then we can at least offer them a helping hand of friendship with the meals for those who need them the most.
