Donation of a sewing machine to the Association of cerebral palsy patients
The “Association of Polio and Dystrophy Patients” has been active since 1996 and it nowadays has around 65 permanent members. The members of the Association are disabled persons and they are unable to perform many activities that are available to healthy persons, but they are very humane fighters who wish to contribute to the society as much as they can.
A workshop entitled “Life Help” was started within the Association with the purpose to serve as working-occupational therapy for the members to manufacture wooden products for the preschool and school age children. In this workshop they make puzzles in the shape of animals that are natural and harmless.
Also, they have another ongoing project for production of eco bags that their members will sell to nearby stores. Apart from the income they will generate which will ease their living conditions by selling the eco bags they will contribute to environment protection and help reduce the use of plastic bags commonly used by the population when purchasing groceries. The MKF EKI employees in Višegrad visited the Association with a desire to help them in performing their tasks.
They needed a sewing machine for production of eco bags as well as fabrics for the bags and EKI were pleased to donate these along with office supplies needed for their administrative activities.
The visit to this Association helped us learn that with a strong will one can overcome many obstacles and that disabled persons have a big heart, that they are full of dignity and do not appreciate being treated with pity.
This was yet another one in a series of donations provided by MKF EKI and it has enriched us and confirmed that socially responsible actions are the path we need to stay on.
